We asked for your thoughts on the race, and as a result, we’re making a few tweaks here and there to make Brainy Day a memorable experience. Every year, our #1 priority is to maximize our donation to the Brainy Day Fund. That’s why we’re a 100% volunteer race committee and we count on race sponsors to cover all of our race costs.
Because our goal is to donate as much of your race fee to the fund, in 2018, we’ve stripped out some of the expenses usually covered by a race fee and gone with the bare minimums – while still providing value for racers of all levels. So how does that all shake out?
2018 Pricing & Customizing Your Registration Options
Looking at ways to maximize that donation and attract more runners to the race, we wanted a price point that made sense for what we were offering. Sure, as a fundraiser, we could always increase the price. But we pride ourselves in being a race for families to attend. How can you honestly ask families to run, while at the same time making the cost of registration high? Even though we’ll be giving everyone a Finisher’s Medal in 2018, we were able to lower the costs for each race category; to the point where a family of four could participate in either the 5K for under $100.*
Early Bird Registration: (ends May 31)
- $20 for the 5K
- $25 for the 10K
- $30 for Both
Post-Early Bird Registration: (June 1 – August 8)
- $25 for the 5K
- $30 for the 10K
- $35 for Both
Race Day Registration:
- $30 for the 5K
- $35 for the 10K
- $40 for Both
As you can tell, we’re bringing back the option of running both races in 2018; the 5K will start at 7:30am and the 10K will start at 8:30am. While we will keep with tradition and acknowledge age-group winners (and have prizes for those folks), we’re only having an Awards Ceremony for the Top 3 Male & Female winners for each race. We hope this will alleviate a lot of the post-race issues for runners.
With a lower cost for the race, we’re not including shirts with your registration fee. However, we are offering an opportunity to upgrade your registration and buy shirts AT COST – we will make no profit on the shirt sales. But, unlike previous years, we’ll give you the opportunity to add a lot of Brainy Day swag to your closet, including: a TriBlend T-Shirt, Long-sleeve Performance Shirt, and a TriBlend Lightweight “Beach Hoodie” Sweatshirt. This year’s shirts will feature reflecting printing and a brand new logo designed by Drivn Threads, the brainwork behind logos for the Grand Rapids Beer Mile, Grand Rapids Triathlon and MiTi; Drivn was gracious enough to donate their time to Brainy Day.
Maximum Participation = Boosting the Brainy Day Fund
Our goal is to see 300 runners participate in the 2018 Brainy Day Trail Run. It’s a lofty goal, but we’re up to the challenge. Why? Well, we are now providing funds for those affected by hydrocephalus through the Brainy Day Fund and every dollar raised can make a huge impact on someone’s life. Through the Brainy Day Fund College Scholarship Program, #NoMoreBS Research Grants, and Hydrocephalus Training Seminars, our goal is to elevate the awareness of hydrocephalus in our community. We need your help to achieve our goals.
