Race projections have us hitting a new record!
With Early Bird pricing now in the past, we’re sitting pretty with 230 runners already committed to racing on August 17. To give you some perspective on the magnitude of that number; we didn’t have 230 registered runners in 2018 until July 22 (less than 3 weeks before the race). Now, as we look to the next 4 months, a lingering question remains…how many runners will we have on race day?
For many reasons already, we’re calling 2019 a success. Yes, having 230 runners in the queue is exciting. Coming back this year as primary sponsors of the race are Odd Side Ales and Outfront Media. We also have a few new sponsors helping us put on an amazing race including our presenting sponsor Subaru of Muskegon & Health Care Partner Health Pointe. Both have enthusiastically committed to supporting the race, our runners and the Brainy Day Fund. We’re also seeing an increase in the number of new runners learning about the race and the Fund; all great opportunities
This year, we again worked with Jon Conkling at Drivn Threads in Grand Rapids for the race logo. His interpretation of the race for the past two years has gone way beyond our expectations. The look and feel of the shirt design definitely sets the tone for the race experience we’re hoping to achieve.
What to expect on race day
Remember, this race should be an experience. We encourage folks to sit back and relax after their run(s), enjoy time away from life’s hustle and bustle, and hopefully relive your race with friends, family, and fellow run partners.
Day-of registration starts at 6am – yes, it will still be dark at that time; sunrise is projected to be at 6:52am. You’re welcome to do a warm-up run on the course or on the roads (please be careful). At this point, we don’t know if we’ll allow race day registration or not, that announcement will come soon. We’ll start to have race announcements around 7:15am. – if you’re running the 5K, you’ll want to be checked in no later than 7:10am to make sure your timing chip is activated. The 5K will start at 7:30am.
If you’re just running the 5K, you’ll want to check in no later than 7:10am. Your race starts at 7:30am. Once you cross the finish line, it’s time to relax. Feel free to pull up a chair, take in the festivities with your FINISHER Medal hanging around your neck, a FREE beverage of choice in your hand, FREE pizza in your belly, FREE fresh fruits and homemade breads, AND FREE frozen yogurt for dessert and enjoy. If you have little ones running the Kids Run, that will start at 8:20am on the starting line of the main race.
If you’re taking on both the 5K & 10K, you should have some time to switch out clothes (if needed), stretch, hydrate (whatever that means for you) and get ready for ROUND 2.
If you’re just running the 10K, you have until 8:10am to check-in. Your race time is 8:30am – just after we conclude the Kids Run. Your motivation to finish fast (and safe) should be the 5K-ers sitting on the sidelines relaxing with their Finisher Medals, a beer/beverage of choice & pizza in their hands. Just think, every step you take is one closer to that finishing experience.
To learn more about the Brainy Day Trail Run, we encourage you to listen to a recent podcast our Race Director did with Michigan Runner Girl. As a side note, he does talk about a free gift which is now not available. We are looking at alternative options, but nothing is set in stone.
